Individuals - Couples - Families

How useful is therapy?

Psychotherapy have been shown to reduce anxiety in clients and assist them in increasing their resilience in dealing with specific life issues and in dealing with life generally.

It can be useful for issues such as anger and mood issues, grief following a loss, stress and relationship problems. It can also help with other difficulties such as depression, addiction, self-esteem issues and problems relating to how we feel about ourselves.

Consultations

Psychotherapy appointments are generally one hour in duration. Appointment are at my office in Kilkenny, however online appointments are possible for individual adult clients.

Confidentiality

Psychotherapy appointments are confidential, however I work within the Túsla / Children First guidelines. In a situation where a child or vulnerable adult has been in the past or is currently at risk, then a referral may need to be made to Túsla / the Gardaí. This is a legal requirement.

Why psychotherapy......

Psychotherapy offers a supportive environment where individuals can explore their thoughts, feelings, and their way of living with the guidance of a trained professional. Therapy offers the opportunity to gain deeper self-understanding and insight into personal challenges. Therapy can help people develop healthier coping strategies, improve communication skills, and manage stress, anxiety, or depression more effectively.

Therapy also fosters personal growth and resilience. It facilitates people in setting and achieving goals, building stronger relationships, and it can enhance overall well-being. Therapy provides a safe space for reflection, healing, and positive change.

As an experienced therapist I work with clients who experience relationship difficulties, anxiety and low mood. I also see clients who struggle to feel that life is worthwhile, and some who have engaged in self-harm. I also have training and experience in working with trauma. I see clients who are living with a chronic illness, and with people who are in recovery from addiction. I work with individuals, including adolescents, as well as with couples and families.

Clinical experience

I have qualifications in psychology and psychotherapy, and I have been working for over twenty years as a psychotherapist.

I work privately, which means that people can self-refer for therapy appointments. Clients can also be referred by their GP or other health professional.

My approach to therapy

As well as a degree in psychology, I have also studied psychodynamic and systemic psychotherapy. My approach to therapy is informed by solution-focussed and systemic thinking. I am also strongly influenced by both narrative and attachment theories.

My focus is always on helping people to find a solution that is best for them.

About me

  • I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental place where clients can come to learn about themselves and grow. Through the client and therapist working together, meaningful change can occur.

  • Psychotherapy can help not only relieve symptoms like anxiety and depression, it can also truly change a person — allowing one to feel a greater sense of self-esteem and experience more enriching relationships.

  • I welcome people from all backgrounds and races, genders and sexual orientations, ages, classes, religions, and ethnicities. I strive to be sensitive to all of the issues - both individual and cultural - that people from various backgrounds encounter.

Be open to possibility....
